Pauline Nyren is a designer working in Philadelphia and New York. With a decade of experience across cultural institutions, hospitality, and retail, she creates concept-driven work with an artistic perspective. Her practice spans brand identities, exhibition graphics and experiential design,  packaging, and digital.&#38;nbsp;


Pauline spent nine years as a Senior Graphic Designer at the Barnes Foundation and has contributed to the development of Calder Gardens, helping establish its visual language from the ground up.


Her work is research-driven and informed by art history, with a particular interest in play, materiality, and experimental forms.


Selected clients include the New Jersey State Museum, Negative, Yowie, Method Co, Casa Vida, and Moore Vintage Archive.

		<description>Brand development and collateral for Calder Gardens. In December of 2024, my role expanded to include brand development and launch assets for Calder Gardens. I helped translate the emerging identity into clear, cohesive materials that support both visitor experience and storytelling. As part of the launch, I designed a suite of assets, including laminated reference sheets that map artwork locations and highlight seasonal plantings, to help visitors easily navigate the site while deepening their connection to the landscape and Alexander Calder’s work.

		<description>This was a packaged set of four valentines cards done in collaboration with Bailey Dodds. The visuals for this project were inspired by antique embroidery samplers, vintage valentines, and folk art. I utilized digital tools such as an ASCII art generator and an embroidery converting tool.

		<description>Brand identity for the Mickalene Thomas: All About Love exhibition at the Barnes.&#38;nbsp;Inspired by the 1970s references often present in Mickalene Thomas’s work, this exhibition identity pairs stretched typography derived from an extended typeface with cropped details of the artist’s paintings. Fragments of pattern, texture, and color become graphic elements within the system, creating a bold visual language that nods to the era while foregrounding the richness of Thomas’s work.Creative direction: Laura Hicklin

		<description>Barnes Art Ball is the Barnes’ annual donor gala to raise funds for programming. Each year the event is tied to a special exhibition, and has a bespoke identity to promote the event.
2025 Art Ball focused on lush forest imagery, as a nod to Rousseau’s paintings. The invitation featured a diecut card wrapping around a folded insert.

2020&#38;nbsp;This year’s event was fully virtual, was not centered around an exhibition, and utlized animation as a main design element.

2019&#38;nbsp;was celebrating Matisse’s birthday and the Barnes’ 30 Americans exhibition. This system used a variable typeface and brightly colored paper inspired by Matisse’s palette.

I customized the typeface with circles for the counters, to mirror the geometry in his sculpture.

	Beginning in the early 20th century, French artist Marie Laurencin (1883–1956) created a unique pictorial world that placed women at the center of modern art. With a highly original painting style that defied categorization, she moved seamlessly between the male-dominated cubist avant-garde, lesbian literary and artistic circles, and the realms of fashion, ballet, and decorative arts.

This exhibition explores Laurencin’s career, from her self-portraits to her collaborative decorative projects; from her early cubist paintings to her signature work—feminine and discreetly queer—that defined 1920s Paris.&#38;nbsp;
